Dean’s Representative for the Financial Market – Investment Advisory Program at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, University of Łódź, in Cooperation with the Polish Financial Supervision Authority

1. Position Overview

The Dean’s Representative for the Financial Market – Investment Advisory Program is an academic-administrative role responsible for supervising and coordinating the study program conducted at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology at the University of Łódź in cooperation with the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF). The individual in this position ensures the quality of education, fosters collaboration with the financial sector, and aligns the study program with current capital market requirements and regulatory standards.

2. Scope of Responsibilities

A. Organization and Supervision of the Study Program

  • Coordinating the curriculum and ensuring its compliance with KNF guidelines and financial market needs.
  • Supervising the implementation and quality of teaching activities.
  • Monitoring and updating course content in line with the latest trends and regulations in the financial sector.
  • Organizing trainings and workshops for students in collaboration with KNF experts and financial sector professionals.

B. Cooperation with the Polish Financial Supervision Authority and the Financial Sector

  • Maintaining ongoing cooperation with KNF to ensure that the study program meets regulatory and supervisory requirements.
  • Organizing meetings, conferences, and guest lectures featuring KNF representatives and financial market experts.
  • Supporting students in obtaining certifications and qualifications required in the investment advisory sector.
  • Establishing partnerships with financial institutions and industry organizations to provide students with internships and employment opportunities.

C. Teaching Activities and Student Support

  • Promoting high teaching standards and implementing modern teaching methods.
  • Organizing consultations and mentoring sessions for students interested in investment advisory careers.
  • Supporting student initiatives, research groups, and projects related to financial markets.
  • Tracking alumni career paths and adjusting the curriculum to meet job market demands.

D. Administrative and Organizational Responsibilities

  • Preparing reports and analyses on the functioning of the study program.
  • Collaborating with the Dean’s Office and other units at the University of Łódź to manage academic programs.
  • Representing the study program at academic and industry events.


Head of the Department of Corporate Finance – Job Description

1. Position Overview

The Head of the Department of Corporate Finance is a managerial position at a higher education institution, responsible for overseeing a research and teaching unit specializing in corporate finance, investments, financial analysis, and risk management. The person in this role is accountable for the development of scientific research, the organization of the teaching process, and collaboration with the business community and external institutions.

2. Scope of Responsibilities

A. Department Management

  • Leading a team of academic and teaching staff, coordinating their work, and supporting their professional development.
  • Developing a strategy for the Department’s growth in alignment with the university's mission and objectives.
  • Supervising the implementation of research and teaching plans.
  • Representing the Department within the university and externally.

B. Scientific and Research Activities

  • Initiating and coordinating research in the field of corporate finance.
  • Supporting staff in obtaining research grants and publishing in prestigious scientific journals.
  • Organizing conferences, seminars, and academic workshops.
  • Collaborating with academic and business institutions at both national and international levels.

C. Teaching Activities

  • Overseeing the quality of teaching and ensuring compliance with academic curricula.

  • Supporting the academic staff’s development through training and mentoring.

Scope of Duties in the Area of Teaching Responsibilities:

  • Conducting teaching activities within the scope of employment, as determined annually by the Senate, for full-time, part-time, and postgraduate studies, including the use of distance learning methods and techniques;
  • Preparing and submitting academic documentation in a timely manner, as required for academic teachers;
  • Participating in the development and updating of curricula and teaching plans;
  • Administering and evaluating exams and assessments, including diploma examinations;
  • Supervising students’ coursework and semester projects;
  • Supervising and reviewing diploma theses;
  • Developing teaching materials for conducted courses;
  • Providing consultations for students;
  • Enhancing professional qualifications related to teaching activities;
  • Ensuring high-quality education and compliance with the internal quality assurance system;
  • Performing other teaching duties assigned by the direct supervisor.

Scope of Duties in the Area of Organizational Responsibilities:

  • Serving on the University's collegial bodies, as well as faculty, senate, and rector’s committees;
  • Participating in recruitment and examination committees for student admissions;
  • Organizing and participating in promotional and presentation events for the University;
  • Organizing conferences, symposia, seminars, and other academic activities;
  • Performing assigned roles, such as year tutor, student group advisor, supervisor of scientific clubs and research camps, and overseeing student internships;
  • Engaging in other organizational activities aimed at improving the University's operations, enhancing the quality of education, and advancing scientific research.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

Monika Bolek, Ph.D., associate professor at University of Lodz is the head of the Department of Corporate Finance and the Dean's plenipotentiary for studies Financial Market - Investment Advisory, conducted under the supervision of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority. She deals with the issues of financial liquidity, operational efficiency and growth of enterprises on the capital market. In addition, she is interested in tax evasion, forex market, innovations, behavioral finance and the process of peer reviewing scientific papers. She conducts classes and seminars on corporate finance, capital market and international finance for both full-time and Erasmus students. Master's theses under her supervision were awarded in the "Golden Pens" competition. She is the author or co-author of about 90 publications, including two monographs. She is a supervisor of teams in the CFA Research Challenge and CFA Ethics Challenge and Faculty Advisor competitions. She is also a court expert in the field of finance and economics at the District Court in Łódź and an expert of the Polish Craft Association in the field of economics. She cooperates with the European Scientific Institute as a member of the Scientific Council, supervisor of postdoc groups and reviewer. She is the editor in the area of corporate finance on the capital market in the Journal of Finance and Financial Law. In the past, she was the deputy director of the Technology Accelerator at the University of Lodz, operating in cooperation with the Austin State University, Texas (USA). where she completed an internship in 2003. For many years she cooperated with the PAM Center (Polish-American Management Center) operating at the Faculty of Management of the University of Lodz, conducting and supervising courses in project management.

Interests in the area of conducted research are related to the growth and assessment of the condition of enterprises, as well as their growth potential on the capital market.
